Jon’s Widebody Project is almost complete!
Written by Dion on September 8, 2009 – 12:38 pm -Jon’s B6 S4 project is coming along! Eurotuner has even deemed it worthy of their Garage Projects page – you can read about it in this month’s issue. Perhaps they’ll find it worthy of a full feature once we are done with it but for now, here are some updates.
First are the Rays Engineering wheels in 18×10. We mentioned in our last update that a set of 20×8.5 Work VS-XX wheels will end up on the car but Jon decided a second set of wheels would allow him to put the car on the ground with proper stance while he decided what color and finish he would do the VS-XXs in. At a hair over 19 lbs. per wheel, it will be the perfect set of wheels to beat up at the track, too!

We knew it was going to be a very close fit, wrapping these 18x10s around the Stasis Mono6 big brakes, but it cleared with more room than we thought!

The car itself is all painted, with just a few miscellaneous parts waiting to arrive before final assembly is complete.

B6 S4 widebody project several steps closer to complete!
Written by Dion on July 23, 2009 – 12:50 pm -The last time Jon gave us an update on his RS4 wide body conversion project, JMI had positioned OEM B7 RS4 body panels to Jon’s B6 in preparation for welding, sanding, priming, and paint. Today we are updated with many pictures showing the exterior transformation of such a massive project.

A roll cage also ended up finding its way in there, another fine job done by the boys at JMI.

Then while browsing the online forums, Jon came across a set of 20″ Work Brombacher Wheels for a price that was unbelievable and impossible to pass up – even if he wasn’t planning to run the wheels on the car in the first place! Then of course a test-fit would determine how well they’d fit with the new, wider fenders.

As if Work wheels and a wide body conversion weren’t enough for this project, Jon picked up a set of Alcon Mono6 Big Brakes in the 370mm version in hopes that it would fill the void left behind the 20″ wheels… Even the largest rotor in the Stasis/Alcon line-up wasn’t enough!

Carbon fiber found it’s way around Jon’s stock B-pillars. Jon also decided to make his own carbon fiber splitter for the front bumper. For his first attempt at doing anything with fiberglass or carbon fiber, these turned out pretty damned good!

We hope to get more updates later this week. Jon unfortunately missed the deadline to have the car ready by WaterWerks 2009 but one more PacNW Audi event is on the near horizon and we hope to see the project complete by then.

A bumper, hood fenders, snub mount, and a lightweight pulley
Written by Jonathan on June 6, 2009 – 1:21 pm -It almost looks like a car again! The new serp tensioner came in, so I put than on and tightened up the serp belt. With the serpentine stuff all done, I proceeded to move over the fans, radiator, etc to the new core support. For those of you replacing radiators in the future, the couplers are just friction fit.

Once I got the core support on, I added/flushed fluids. I added new G12+, Mobil1 5w30, and flushed my P/S fluid. We test fit the hood and bumper, everything lines up well. It needs some fender adjustment and some more brackets, but it looks damn good! The hood has some poor paint/resin (EuroGear) that will be fixed before paint.
Car should hopefully be done by the end of the month, but of course, this depends on parts and what not.

B6 S4 gets a little wider
Written by Jonathan on June 2, 2009 – 12:02 am -What can you do in 12 hours? How about swapping 75% of the body panels on a B6 S4? This trip to JMI was quite rewarding as I was able to replace all the doors, remove the front core support, replace both front fenders, gut the interior, and remove the rear bumper.
With the vehicle in service position I thought it would be a good time to do some maintenance and mods. Valve cover gaskets, JHM intake manifold spacers, JHM lightweight crank pulley, JHM heater elbow bypass, and a new water pump and thermostat all ended up in the car. I’m also relocating the Optima Yellow Top battery to the passenger-side trunk which should help balance out the weight of my sub all-the-while removing weight from the front of the car.
Anyway, here’s the progress so far…not bad for one guy and 17 hours! (If he must say so himself – Dion)

Widebody B6 S4 Progress
Written by Jonathan on May 26, 2009 – 1:27 am -Well, this weekend was quite eventful. Jon trekked up to JMI Motoring so he could pull parts off the car. It looks like he’ll be removing both bumpers, the hood, lock carrier, all doors, all fenders, both front and rear glass, and cutting out the rear quarter panels. This will be an interesting endeavor to say the least!

He spent about five hours at the shop removing as much as he could. Within that time-frame he was able pull most of the front-end off as well as some of the rear. Jon will be back at the shop again soon to pull the rest of the body panels. This also gives Jon an opportunity to replace his serpentine belt and snub mount.
The next time he’s at the shop, he said he’ll likely be able to replace all the doors, front fenders, lock carrier, and rear bumper so progress is certainly coming along!

A B6 S4 to B7 RS4 Widebody Conversion
Written by Jonathan on May 17, 2009 – 1:00 am -Today marks the beginning of Jon’s new project, the transformation of his 2004 Audi S4. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the B6 S4 will be getting a little refresher.

The plan is to do a complete OEM wide body conversion and transform this B6 S4 into a B7 RS4. This involves replacing exterior panels on the car and then some! He’ll be replacing the Oettinger front bumper with an OEM RS4 bumper which he plans to incorporate the S6 LEDs into the fog light area. This should be an easier task then the installation of the lights in the Oettinger kit since the openings in the bumper are a little wider. Jon will also be replacing the S4 blades with those found on the A4, or even RS4 blades… Jon wants to see how fitment is with the A4 blades first. The Kerscher side skirts will be replaced as well. Once all the exterior work is done, Jon has an RS4 steering wheel and a B7 center console that will need a new home
Since Jon’s S4 is a B6, the hood and headlights will also need to replaced; luckily he was able to source a set of complete headlights and a Eurogear CF hood with Aerolatch hood pins already installed from a fellow Audi driver for a GREAT price! Plans will be to color-match these pieces to the body. Stay tuned as we update you with the progress of Jon’s RS4-conversion!
