APR Trip Recap: Part 2

Written by Dion on March 2, 2010 – 9:12 pm -

  1. Before setting out into the local Alabama scene, we had to sport our VW New Beetles proper. It was no Jetta or Passat as promised by the lovely voice on the phone, but it was going to have to do!

We took care of business, had us some local BBQ, then went right back to APR to get a closer look around. Seeing the B8 S4 parked up front with vanity “APR B8 S4″ brings a smile from ear to ear on the faces of the entire Achtuning crew – the B8 S4 is what we’ve all been waiting for!

    The street version…

The walk around the parking lot was refreshing. The donk’d out Skylarks and chromed wrapped Mazda pick-ups throughout town, while entertaining, just wasn’t really what we were in Opelika to see.

The inside though was the business!!

… Oh, and the track version B8 S4!

We’ve followed along with Arin’s updates of the APR Mk6 GTI Race Build and it was definitely very cool to see it up close in person.

The Mk5s of course are still getting some play.

The team at APR consists of professional, knowledgeable, and friendly people, and a diverse group at that. They’ve got a state-of-the-art facility and deep ties with big names in the performance industry. They recently added Volkswagen to their roster of support, a true sign of good things to come. Then there’s the quality line-up of high-performing VWs and Audis parked out front sporting the products we sell, not to mention a full Motorsport division using (and abusing) these products regularly on the track – this all assures us there is a reason we are an APR dealer… And also why we’re here. Which brings us to our announcement made Saturday night.

The B7 Audi RS4 SUPERCHARGER kit for the FSI 4.2L V8 is done! We are told we should be installing these kits as early as this May and I can already think of a few local RS4 guys who should be lining up to get this done. The supercharger kit will certainly carry over to the Audi S5, R8, and Q7. There’s even talk about Audi RS5 compatibility – let’s hope we get them here in North America!

Heffner Performance has partnered with APR to offer V8 Audi R8 customers a twin-turbocharger kit! Our sources tell us the kit will produce 500 whp on pump gas and 6 psi!

More software products are expecting to debut within this 2010 season including DSG transmission upgrades and TDI software and performance product development. We’ve already got a shipment of VW Mk6 GTI turbo-back exhausts en route and it’s just a matter of time before we begin to see B8 Audi S4 software and performance product parts available. It’s going to be a great future with APR!

APR has to “Un-pimp the auto!”

Written by Dion on February 4, 2010 – 3:58 pm -

Stay tuned as we watch APR’s progress as they tear down their latest VW Mk6 GTI Stage 3 demo car in preparation for this next year’s race season!  (words and pictures by Arin Ahnell)

Months before the MK6 was released we were able to get our hands on a shiny new red MK6, vin number 64. We quickly began developing products after we stopped drooling over the new setup. One of the first items strapped to the vehicle was a shiny new stage III turbocharger kit that put down around 385 ftlbs of torque and 370 HP. The car was fitted with BBS wheels, Sachs performance Suspension, and Alcon big brakes. She was a beautiful car.

Then along came APR Motorsport and the 2010 racing season. The MK5’s are now in their third season – it was time for a change. We started by mocking up the new race car and showing it off at our BBQ in October.

But this was far from ready to hit the track. We have rules we must follow. That means it’s time to Un-Pimp the auto!

The stage three kit was ripped out of the car!

Chas got to work on the miles of wires!

and EVERYTHING was ripped out of the car in 2 days!

Once it was all out, it was time to remove all the small bits. Loads of dry ice were used to remove sound dampening material while Chad cut off all the unneeded bits!

Stay tuned for updates! Roll cage and car number two is next!

APR debuts Stage 3 equipped Mk6 GTI at Waterfest 15

Written by Dion on July 28, 2009 – 1:06 pm -

Debuting at Waterfest 15 this year was APR’s Stage 3 Turbo kit on an example of Volkswagen’s 6th generation 2.0 TSI equipped GTI!

We mentioned the official release of the 2.0TSI Stage 3 turbo kit earlier this month. What we couldn’t tell you is that Volkswagen handed APR the keys to a Mk6 GTI to fit the turbo upgrade and that it would debut at Waterfest 15! And all this long before the car hits showroom floors here in the US.

We’re seeing more and more examples of Volkswagen and APR working together and we sure don’t see an end in sight! Good things are on the horizon for Volkswagen enthusiasts who just can’t seem to leave their cars well enough alone!
