StopTech has announced the release of their ST-40 (4-piston) and ST-60 (6-piston) Big Brake Kits for the B8 chassis Audi cars, the 2009+ Audi A4 and A5.

The 332×32mm, 4-piston kits start at $2195 with red, black, or silver calipers and slotted rotors while the 355×32mm, 6-piston kits start at $3195 with the same options. StopTech has also announced the availability of their OE-sized brake products including rotors, pads, and stainless-steel braided brake lines for the B8 cars. Stage 1 and 2 upgrades will also be available shortly – the Stage 1 kits offering pads and lines while the Stage 2 kits offer everything you need for a complete brake job – rotors, pads, lines, and fluid!

The Achtuning A3 project is proud to show off high quality performance parts from H&R, APR, StopTech, and Hartmann’s Forged Split-7 Wheels. Other than the factory votex kit painted by Dreamwerks Custom Paint in Monroe, WA little has been done to further enhance the exterior appeal of the car yet it turns heads on just about every corner. We are very pleased with how the project turned out.

We got the call from Adrian around 7pm Thursday evening. He mentioned he would be finishing up a military training session at 2am in LA that next morning, then arriving in Seattle early Friday. He asked what we might be able to do for his recently purchased Mk4 GTI. As it turned out, we had plenty readily available for him to get a good jump-start on his modding bug.Adrian ended up spending a big portion of his day with Achtuning as he asked us to transform his VW Mk4 GTI into an even better performing European hot hatch, courtesy of a Stasis Streetsport Coil-Over Kit and APR ECU Upgrade.

To Adrian’s surprise, we found that the GTI he picked up used had already been equipped with APR software, just locked out. We glady unlocked his software for him which opened up the budget for more performance parts. As it turned out, the brakes were also in need of attention and since we had a couple of StopTech’s 328×28mm Big Brake Kits on the shelf, he decided to go for it!

Adrian will have a chance to test out StopTech’s claims of having the best over-all braking distance improvement without the worry of over-working the master cylinder as brake bias is kept balanced with the appropriately sized brake pistons for the Mk4. Having larger, cleaner, and bright red calipers to show off that stopping power is just icing on the cake!

A while back we sold a set of StopTech Big Brakes to Lucasz, a Mk5 Jetta TDI owner who lives north of our border. He posted up the post-install pictures and we had to share them, especially considering the quality of his photos and how well the car has come along…

The StopTech Big Brake Kit consists of 328×28mm slotted two-piece rotors, stainless-steel braided brake lines, ceramic brake pads, and those gorgeous 4-piston calipers powder-coated silver to match the theme of Lucasz’ Jetta.

Last Friday we threw on the H&R Premium Coil-Over Suspension on each corner of the Achtuning A3 project, bringing the car closer to the ground where it belongs. More importantly of course, we’ll be able to handle local roads and tracks with ease and hug our 19″ Hartmann Forged Split-7 Wheels with the better performing suspension.

We’ve also got a new rear sub frame brace we’re testing out. This triangular piece mounts between the rear control arms with no extra drilling or modification and offers better handling and steering response in cornering. We’ll add a rear anti-roll bar the next chance we get to further eliminate body roll and try to neutralize some of the A3’s under-steer characteristics.

We took her out for a spin and the motor is putting down some good power! Clearly the stock 17s with all-season tires weren’t going to cut it and we immediately noticed severe brake fade after a few hard runs so brakes were definitely going to be the next order of business.

The StopTech 328×28mm, 4-piston Big Brake Kit ended up on the car yesterday and look fantastic with the red and black H&R suspension components!

Brake clearance was tight with the new 4-piston calipers but it was just enough to make things fit the way it needed…

We’re still undecided on the final wheel finish so for now we’ll keep them polished. Front bumper is also back on and a Votex kit might be the next thing added to our Achtuning A3 project.

StopTech’s ” Stage 2 Brake Upgrade ” is the perfect option when it comes to having your brake rotors and pads replaced! A “Stage 2″ kit consists of front and rear rotor replacements with your choice of blank, slotted, or drilled rotor surfaces. Ceramic Axxis Ultimate brake pads, stainless-steel braided brake lines, and 3-bottles of Motul’s RBF600 brake fluid complete the kit so you have everything needed to add fresh brakes to your car.

John dropped off his B6 Audi A4 1.8T to have StopTech’s Stage 2 kit installed – by the end of the day he will be picking his car up with some fresh stopping power which should go well with the APR ECU upgrade we’re performing…
