Less is more!

Written by Dion on June 29, 2010 – 12:33 pm -

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche Club of America in 2006, Porsche built 50 911 Carrera S “Club Coupes” that would be available for sale only to club members. 1 example sits in the Porsche museum in Stuttgart and of the 49 examples spread throughout North America, two are owned by local WA residents – not surprised! All 50 examples received the same gorgeous and unique color of Azurro California Blue Metallic, a 3.8L X51 engine pushing 381 hp, a sport-tuned exhaust system, and a carbon fiber air intake system to name a few key elements that separate these cars from your standard Carrera S. The only thing it lacked was a set of H&R spacers!!

Taking into consideration the amount of suspension travel the car will still have at its current ride height, and using a simple technique to measure wheel spacing thanks to H&R, it was determined that of the sizes available from H&R, the 7mm spacers out back would even out the front-to-rear stance difference the car came with from the factory. Less is indeed more, as the very subtle wider track on this Porsche has it sitting proper!

H&R to the rescue!

Written by Dion on June 16, 2010 – 1:45 pm -

Thanks to H&R and the recent launch of their www.trakplus.com website, we now have a very resourceful and straight-forward tool to assist us in determining which spacer application to run on your car.  While we’d like to think we know everything there is to know about wheel-spacing, the fact is, “going wide” is not an exact science.  Also, “stance” is purely subjective.  One person’s view of “properly stanced” may likely differ from the next.  And unless you are local and can stop by, several variations such as vehicle ride height and/or tire size makes it difficult for us to tell you with absolute certainty whether or not “x”-size spacer is appropriate for your car.  We can give you an idea, but ultimately it is up to you to decide where within your fenders you want those wheels to sit…

TrakPlus.com will tell you what tools you’ll need to measure your current wheel gap, how to use those tools to obtain an accurate measurement, and even lets you know which of the many spacer applications H&R offers will specifically work for your vehicle given those dimensions.  It will also list out other options available for your car.  While we have included a link to this very useful tool on each spacer page of our online catalog, we trust you will find a reason to bookmark this for use in the future!  As always, continue to contact us for your wheel-spacing needs!

It’s the little things that can make a big difference…

Written by Dion on September 2, 2009 – 8:09 am -

Brian has no interest in lowering his S-Line B8 A4 avant, and at its current ride height I don’t blame him. Used as a daily driver to haul around family or business associates, and already sitting on the S-Line’s 19×8.5″ wheels styled after the new RS6 wheel and Audi’s “sport suspension”, all he really needed was a bit of help from H&R with some 5mm spacers out back to make just the slightest bit of difference in over-all stance and appearance.

The H&R’s 5mm spacer is not hubcentric, meaning it doesn’t come with a lip for the wheel to evenly balance on, but then the hub’s lip is slightly thicker than the spacer so there is some room to center the wheel evenly on the Audi’s wheel hub lip.

To pep the car up a bit, Brian had us load APR’s ECU Upgrade, and just in time to take advantage of APR’s sale pricing where various octane-level programming options are installed for the price of a single-program burn! APR software is the best power per dollar modification for the new 2.0 TFSI Valve Lift and gives it just the extra edge these cars lack from the factory without pushing the limits.

All-in-all, not much more has to be done to improve on this S-Line A4. Interior fit and finish is superb as always with the combination of brushed aluminum and alcantara suede.

What more could you ask for? Surely we can come up with something…

H&R DRA Wheel Spacers

Written by Dion on July 29, 2009 – 12:25 pm -

H&R DRA spacers bolt directly to your wheel hub and come with their own set of bolts to do it. This allows you to use your factory wheel bolts to mount the wheel to the spacer rather than using longer wheel bolts with H&R’s DR style spacer.

Mike has returned to Achtuning as his B8 Audi A4 was in need of a better stance. The H&R DRA spacers we stock, 25mm out back and 20mm up front was just the right amount of poke needed to push the factory wheels out and improve the over-all look and feel of the car. It’s also a great temporary solution while you’re saving up for a set of coil-overs and wheels to even further improve stance and handling.

Mesh 305, Euromesh 3s, whatever we call them…

Written by Dion on May 7, 2009 – 8:24 am -

… And whatever they end up on, they look fantastic!!

It was a sad day when we learned Jake had found his car left in his parking garage without wheels on it. He was once rockin’ the HS5-209 Wheels on his B7 A4 – in fact he was the first local A4 to run the new look. Rather than going with the same look this time around, he took the situation and used it to his favor and picked up a different set of Hartmann Wheels.

Again a first for our local scene, Jake is now running the Mesh 305s with H&R spacers to correct the offset and final stance and we have to say while we knew it would be a good look, the end result is just stunning!

H&R 10mm spacers were used to push the 19×8.5 et48 wheels to a final offset of 38mm where most of the Hartmann 19″ wheels sit on B7 A4s. Jake also made sure to pick up a set of RAD wheel locks in a longer length to clear the spacers, and to further deter thieves from picking on his wheels again.

Written by Dion on November 28, 2008 – 3:50 pm -

Chris had to come by and pick up some H&R 8mm spacers so his Hartmann 359 winter wheels would clear the StopTech BBK he purchased earlier in the year…

Talk about a tight fit!!

VW Mk4 GTI’s stance improves with H&R spacers

Written by Dion on September 22, 2008 – 9:56 am -

H&R spacers allow you to change the stance of your vehicle by pushing the wheel away from your hub by the thickness of the selected spacer. Longer wheel bolts are then used to accommodate for the extra “space” and bolt the wheel to the hub with the spacer in between. H&R spacers are many times installed only to make an aesthetic difference and change vehicle stance but there are some instances where H&R spacers are needed for specific wheels and their offsets to clear suspension components. Take Brandon’s black mk4 1.8T GTI for example…

In order to run these specific 18×8.5, 35mm offset wheels at the height his car sits with his FK coil-overs, 10mm hubcentric H&R spacers were required to push the inside of the wheel and tire away from the suspension components. This allowed Brandon to keep the extreme lowered stance he was after.

Consequently the outer clearance between tire and fender is minimized accordingly so care has to be used on tight cornering or hard bumps to keep the 225/40 tire from hitting the fender. Brandon has plans to roll his front fenders to give the tires additional clearance. And since the fronts were pushed out, the rear wheels naturally had to get pushed out as well to match the front stance and H&R’s 15mm spacers were selected. This aggressive stance completely transforms the look of the GTI and goes to show how much a car’s looks can change with such a small and simple modification.
