H&R to the rescue!

Written by Dion on June 16, 2010 – 1:45 pm -

Thanks to H&R and the recent launch of their www.trakplus.com website, we now have a very resourceful and straight-forward tool to assist us in determining which spacer application to run on your car.  While we’d like to think we know everything there is to know about wheel-spacing, the fact is, “going wide” is not an exact science.  Also, “stance” is purely subjective.  One person’s view of “properly stanced” may likely differ from the next.  And unless you are local and can stop by, several variations such as vehicle ride height and/or tire size makes it difficult for us to tell you with absolute certainty whether or not “x”-size spacer is appropriate for your car.  We can give you an idea, but ultimately it is up to you to decide where within your fenders you want those wheels to sit…

TrakPlus.com will tell you what tools you’ll need to measure your current wheel gap, how to use those tools to obtain an accurate measurement, and even lets you know which of the many spacer applications H&R offers will specifically work for your vehicle given those dimensions.  It will also list out other options available for your car.  While we have included a link to this very useful tool on each spacer page of our online catalog, we trust you will find a reason to bookmark this for use in the future!  As always, continue to contact us for your wheel-spacing needs!

Want Your Own TDI Cup Car?

Written by Dion on April 19, 2010 – 9:00 am -

In 2008 we saw the launch of the Jetta TDI Cup Series in SCCA Racing, VW’s way of introducing clean diesel technology to the US Market and it was a big success! A couple of years later, Volkswagen is offering their 2010 Jetta TDI Cup Edition to give VW owners an opportunity to have their own version of the SCCA Cup Car…. Almost.

Jonathan brought us his wife’s TDI Cup Edition Jetta to help get their consumer-version closer to the performance levels of the actual Cup Series car. H&R’s Sport Spring kit and wheel spacers addressed both performance and stance by giving the car a 20mm wider track via 10mm DR spacers in the back and about an inch-drop both front and back using H&R’s sport springs. The end result is exactly what Jonathan had in mind for his wife’s daily driver.

We are expected to see this car back as soon as APR releases some of their performance goodies they promise to roll out this year… Don’t let us down, APR!

All Smiles

Written by Dion on April 15, 2010 – 10:42 am -

Seeing the grin on Chris’ face when pulling up his Audi S5 after he had left it with us was satisfying. But probably not as satisfying as the slight rumble Chris heard emit from the Stasis Cat-Back exhaust we had just installed.

It wasn’t just the sound that brought a smile to Chris’ face either, but also the fact that we rolled it out with a new stance ala H&R wheel spacers. 15mm front and 20mm rear spacers brought the factory S5 wheels closer to the fender’s edge and gave the car that “bulldog” stance we like to see.

And while we couldn’t see it, we imagine the grin on Chris’ face was turned into a giddy laugh when he stepped on it getting out of here… The combination of the APR ECU software upgrade for the FSI V8 and the cat-back must have made a lasting impression! Now if we can just convince him to bring the car down to the ground a bit…

We Are Moving…

Written by Dion on April 7, 2010 – 10:40 am -

… To the other side of the parking lot.

We’re still going to be at the end of 91st off of Willows Road here in Redmond but we will be in a larger facility to better accommodate our very large inventory – 50% larger than our current location. The showroom will also be larger than our current one which will allow us to better display our products. It’s going to be a long, slow process to move into our new building and we’re going to need your help! So… as with any move, we present to you:

Just about any item we have on the shelf ready for pick-up or shipping will be quoted with sale pricing (if not already on sale) to help minimize the number of items we need to move into our new facility. If an item online at achtuning.com is not on sale and we have it on the shelf, contact us directly for a quote and take advantage of big savings!!

Questions? Post away! Or feel free to contact us directly…

Show off those RS4 brakes!

Written by Dion on September 23, 2009 – 12:13 pm -

Doug felt the factory brakes on his sprint blue B7 Audi RS4 deserved more attention! The floating two-piece rotors look menacing behind the factory wheels but not enough to satisfy Doug’s craving to show off those gigantic rotors and gorgeous calipers. Enter the Hartmann AR8 wheels in 19×8.5 with a 38mm offset and H&R’s 12mm wheel spacers.

The car isn’t tracked and for a daily driver this car doesn’t suffer much down-sizing to an 8.5″ wide wheel from a 9″. Glancing at the car from the back, its a tough difference to spot! Can you tell which one is smaller?

To gain that aesthetic edge…

Written by Dion on September 9, 2009 – 1:42 pm -

… Chris brought back his e92 M3 to us to pick up a set of H&R spacers.   After doing a bit of homework, he learned that this particular combination of H&R springs and  factory18″ wheels and tires would allow at most a 12mm spacer both front and rear without having clearance issues.

Lookin’ sharp, Chris!

It’s the little things that can make a big difference…

Written by Dion on September 2, 2009 – 8:09 am -

Brian has no interest in lowering his S-Line B8 A4 avant, and at its current ride height I don’t blame him. Used as a daily driver to haul around family or business associates, and already sitting on the S-Line’s 19×8.5″ wheels styled after the new RS6 wheel and Audi’s “sport suspension”, all he really needed was a bit of help from H&R with some 5mm spacers out back to make just the slightest bit of difference in over-all stance and appearance.

The H&R’s 5mm spacer is not hubcentric, meaning it doesn’t come with a lip for the wheel to evenly balance on, but then the hub’s lip is slightly thicker than the spacer so there is some room to center the wheel evenly on the Audi’s wheel hub lip.

To pep the car up a bit, Brian had us load APR’s ECU Upgrade, and just in time to take advantage of APR’s sale pricing where various octane-level programming options are installed for the price of a single-program burn! APR software is the best power per dollar modification for the new 2.0 TFSI Valve Lift and gives it just the extra edge these cars lack from the factory without pushing the limits.

All-in-all, not much more has to be done to improve on this S-Line A4. Interior fit and finish is superb as always with the combination of brushed aluminum and alcantara suede.

What more could you ask for? Surely we can come up with something…

Widen that stance!

Written by Dion on August 27, 2009 – 4:11 pm -

We constantly preach stance, and Jeremy knew his 3.2L A5 suffered from a lack of… He was told to come to Achtuning to pick up some H&R spacers and based on 20mm and 25mm DRA spacers placed on previous A5s, Jeremy figured he’d do the same.

In this particular case however, a 20mm spacer up front was too much as the Goodyear tires mounted on the factory wheels were “meatier” and offered far less clearance behind the fender. Keeping with a 25mm DRA spacer in the back, 15mm spacers were selected up front this time to push the wheels out and provide that aggressive stance Jeremy was after without having tire to fender clearance issues. End result…

Go Wide

Written by Dion on May 29, 2009 – 3:01 pm -

Go wide with H&R spacers… Nathan did! He brought back his B7 Audi A4 to push out the Titanium Package wheels out to improve the stance with his new suspension upgrade, courtesy of Stasis Streetsport coil-overs.

10mm and 15mm H&R DR-style spacers were commissioned front and rear respectively and the end result is just about as aggressive as it’ll get with the current stance… Me likes!!
