A slippery slope we all understand…
Written by Dion on February 12, 2010 – 10:42 am -Car enthusiasm and modding becomes a slippery slope, and Kris understands this very well only after a short time of owning his VW CC. As promised, here are some updates as of his last visit to Achtuning only a couple of weeks ago.

The Gold Coast kit is on and European-spec e-codes now grace the front-end, eliminating the amber corners found in the US-spec headlights. A Carbonio Stage 2 Intake, APR Stage 2 software upgrade, and APR turbo down-pipe gives the CC a bigger bump in power and Kris reports his “butt dyno” can definitely feel a huge improvement from Stage 1. We hear this is yet to be the end of the CC’s improvements to come though, and we’ll of course continue to update you as Kris returns for more!

Carbonio Intake for VW TSI 2.0T
Written by Dion on February 9, 2009 – 12:45 pm -APR announced availability of the Carbonio Cold Air Intake for VW TSI motors not too long ago, and we’ve received our first shipment late last week.
********************************************************************************************
“Carbonio’s latest carbon fiber intake for the 2.0 TSI engine is a truly race engineered ram air design that is available for the first time as an affordable street car intake system. Building from years of experience on and off the race track, Carbonio’s and APR’s engineering teams have spent countless hours developing a true cold air and ram air carbon fiber design that can be recreated affordably for the street performance enthusiast.
For many years professional motorsport organizations have suffered great expense to properly tune the air intake delivery system for transverse turbocharged engines for use in endurance and sprint races where every last horsepower and pound feet of torque can make the difference in position when crossing the finish line. Historically these designs have proven to be the most efficient and powerful although the most expensive to produce.
Carbonio and APR have gone even further to maintain all oem specifications necessary to integrate cohesively with an otherwise stock engine to avoid raising eyebrows at the dealership. Flexibility was another characteristic of Carbonio’s and APR’s design whereas the new TSI intake is also suitable for Stage 1 and Stage 2 modified engines all the way up to and beyond APR’s Stage 3 Turbocharger System.”
MAF Readings:
“Cold air induction is accomplished by completely sealing the intake system from the hot engine bay air and then taking it even further through the choice of Carbon Fiber material and an additional thermal barrier application to the inside of the intake system. Quite often intakes are advertised as cold air induction even though the material choice is a metal or plastic composite which simply does not insulate the incoming air from the hot engine bay air or does not completely seal the intake system in the engine bay allowing hot air to enter the intake stream negating any cold air induction gains.”
Dyno Performance:
Benefits of the Carbonio CAI System include:
- Increased Horsepower and Torque
- Improved Throttle Response
- Decreased Turbo ‘Lag’
- Flattened Torque Curve (engine is less ‘peaky’)
- Improved Fuel Economy
- Enhanced Engine Volumetric Efficiency
- Enhanced Sound of Turbo Diverter Valve
- Installs in an Hour (does not require bumper or headlight removal)
- Maintains Clean Appearance by Retaining Factory Engine Cover
- Maintains All Factory Emissions Components
- Fits Both Manual and Automatic Transmissions
- Unique Thermal Barrier Composite Construction Ensures Low Inlet Temperatures
- Fully Compatible and Complimentary with APR Software and Exhaust systems
Each Carbonio Kit Includes:
- Aerospace Grade Carbon Fiber Main Section
- Carbon Fiber Main Section Show Quality Finish
- Complete Photographic Instructions
- All Necessary Hardware Included for Easy Install without Cutting Or Modifying

19″ Hartmann 252 and STaSIS suspension transform this B7 Audi S-Line A4
Written by Dion on October 2, 2008 – 9:09 am -It didn’t take much to make Ariel’s B7 Audi S-Line A4 to get from this…
… To this!
As common as an “RS4-style” wheel is on an A4, it doesn’t seem to get old. The ever-popular STaSIS Streetsport coil-over kit completed the subtle transformation making the A4 into a “classy” head-turner.
Ariel had a set of Pirelli tires sent to us from Tire Rack in a 245/35-19, the larger of the two commonly chosen tire sizes for 19″ wheels on the B7 A4. When Ariel mentioned interest in the Hartmann 252, a 42mm offset in a 19×8.5 was suggested rather than the more common 38mm version.
APR software, a STaSIS exhaust system, and also pep-up this A4 a bit. In fact the exhaust system alone helped us sell another set-up to a customer visiting us for an APR re-burn. (Thanks Ariel!)
Apparently this is just the start for this A4 as more modifications are planned for the near future. Can’t wait to what’s in store for it. Oh, and Happy Birthday Ariel!!
