Carbonio’s latest carbon fiber intake for the 3.0 TFSI engine is a ram air design that completely separates the intake filter from the engine bay. Building from years of experience on and off the race track, Carbonio’s and APR’s engineering teams have spent countless hours developing a true cold air and ram air carbon fiber design that can be recreated affordably for the street performance enthusiast.
For many years professional motorsport organizations have suffered great expense to properly tune the air intake delivery system for turbocharged engines for use in endurance and sprint races where every last horsepower and pound feet of torque can make the difference in position when crossing the finish line. Historically these designs have proven to be the most efficient and powerful although the most expensive to produce.
Aftermarket performance companies have attempted to capitalize on these designs however the cost restraints have typically resulted in compromise and deviation from the true engineering principles associated with motorsport accomplishment. Don’t be fooled by catch phrases and tag lines alluding to a new intake technology or special design characteristic. You won’t see any of these gimmicks installed on race cars at the Nurburgring.

Higher Mass Airflow Readings
Ram air induction is accomplished by maintaining the OEM air inlet opening at the front of the leading hood edge which is the highest pressure area of airflow across the entire vehicle. Placement of the air filter as close to this high pressure zone as possible results in overcoming some of the airflow restriction created by even the highest flowing air filters available.

Smooth and Direct Air Flow
The OEM intake system vents some of the incoming air into the engine bay and takes several twists and turns before the air ever reaches the turbo-charger. The Carbonio Intake System simplifies the intake system by directing all incoming air directly at the filter.

APR gives us a glimpse of the new VW Mk6 2.5L intake by Carbonio
Written by Dion on December 20, 2010 – 2:33 pm -APR is at it again with their “teasers”. The latest update from APR is about the Carbonio Intake for the Mk6 2.5L. Slight differences between the Mk5 and Mk6 2.5Ls do not allow for a ram-air intake design similar to the 2.0T applications nor use of the Mk5-specific intake. With its carbon fiber construction, a new mold was produced with these changes in mind and it won’t be long before we will have these available.
As with all “teasers”, updated pricing and power figures will be posted as soon as they are released from APR. Meanwhile, check out these pictures!

APR teases us with pre-debut pics of the Audi (B8) S4 Carbonio Intake
Written by Dion on December 16, 2010 – 2:22 pm -APR is very close to the release of their Audi (B8) S4 Carbonio Intake System and they offered up these pictures to tease us with!

Our new S4 owners have been having a difficult time selecting the appropriate intake for their car considering the competition’s intake systems are either un-attractive, made of cheap materials, or simply not producing any extra power. To address these concerns, APR and Carbonio have come up with a two-stage solution that not only gives you the expected power gains and good-looks in the engine bay with high-quality parts, but also offers customers the option of keeping the supercharger sound stock-like and quiet, or louder with the use of the Carbonio Stage 2 Intake.

The APR by Carbonio Intake System is a ram-air intake design completely sealed from the engine bay. Air will draw directly from the OEM ram-air intake tracts and is lead smoothly into the intake chamber. Air is then sucked through the OEM resonated intake tube (used for noise reduction) or through the Carbonio high-flow, non-resonated, carbon fiber intake tube (for more noise, better flow, and even greater looks).
The Stage 1 system will not include the carbon fiber tube from the air box to the engine as the factory tube contains resonators to keep supercharger noise to a minimum. For those interested in hearing the charger, yet without it being noisy as in the case of a fully open intake system, they’ve created a Stage 2 carbon fiber tube leading from the air box to the throttle body.

Reflective Sound Cancellation allows for maximum exhaust gas flow while completely eliminating in cabin sound resonance (drone). RSC™ incorporates innovative technologies developed in conjunction with NASA. With limited use of packing materials and no baffles, RSC™ allows for a completely straight and free flowing exhaust path through the RSC™ mufflers. Reflective Cancellation bounces the undesirable sound waves into each other to attenuate the wave and completely eliminate the low frequency tones that create drone. Each RSC™ muffler is tuned to eliminate specific, undesirable sound frequencies allowing only the engine’s desirable exhaust notes to be heard and improving performance.


3″ Design with High Flow Catalytic Converters
APR’s 3 inch downpipe with high flow catalyst for the A4 2.0 TFSI is the first true downpipe for the A4 and the only one that incorporates traditional exhaust performance tuning for the new 2.0 TFSI engine. Other 2.0 TFSI engine applications outside of the A4 chassis have historically enjoyed the following benefits that have never before been made available to A4 owners:
-3 inch Exhaust Tubing Diameter beginning at the Turbocharger Exit for Maximum Turbocharger Spool and Peak Horsepower
-Relocation of the Catalyst to Reduce Backpressure and Turbulent Airflow at the Turbocharger
-Incorporation of a 200 Cell Count Catalyst to aid in Turbocharger Spool and Remove Restriction
-Considerable Increases in Peak Horsepower, Peak Torque and Fuel Economy


APR is proud to offer the only true 3 inch full length downpipe available for the 2.0 TFSI A4 which delivers true exhaust Performance Without Compromise.
By utilizing a straight though design, APR is able to maximize power gains when coupled with APR’s Stage 2 ECU Upgrade without uncomfortable levels of exhaust drone while cruising.
During our development we discovered the exhaust systems flowed so well modifications to the software were absolutely required when using the new RSC systems. Spool time was significantly decreased and would result in a rather large overshoot of requested load levels which would cause the throttle to close. This can only be eliminated by properly recalibrating the engine software to match the hardware changes and APR’s Stage 2 ECU Upgrade is born.
The benefits of APR’s Stage 2 ECU Upgrade with APR’s RSC Dual Exit Full Exhaust System are as follows:
1. Turbocharger Boost Onset Reduced by Over 400 rpm’s!
2. Peak Torque is Increased by Over 100 lb ft when Compared to Stock Exhaust and Programming and by Over 70 lb ft when Compared to APR’s Stage 1 ECU Upgrade and Stock Exhaust!
3. Peak Horsepower is Increased by Over 50hp when Compared to Stock Exhaust and Programming and by 29hp when Compared to APR’s Stage 1 ECU Upgrade and Stock Exhaust!
We tested both our Dual Exit and Single Exit RSC Exhaust Systems and found the Dual Exit RSC System to deliver slightly more horsepower in the higher rpm’s as expected.
