Audi Club Northwest and University Audi present: The University of Quattro
Written by Dion on January 23, 2012 – 12:17 pm -As a club sponsor, we’d like to help get the word out. This is something EVERYONE should do!!

For the novice driver and the experienced veteran this event will have something for everyone!
For our high performance drivers school we will put students (teens and adults) through a litany of exercises designed to help you become a better driver, more able to deal with extreme situations with ease, and more comfortable on your daily commute as well. Walking you through these exercises are Audi Club instructors who will make you feel at ease while learning things that one day might save your life. You will have hands on experience in your car and there will be multiple short discussion sessions where things learned on the course will be discussed in detail. Towards the end of the day students will be taken out to our low speed autocross course should they choose and get to drive a timed lap that will test what you learned all day in real time with only time consequences when you make a mistake. See the more detailed description of this event and register atwww.audiclubnw.motorsportreg.com. You must pre-register to attend this event.
For our more experienced drivers we will have a full, very large autocross utilizing portions of the Monroe Speedway racetrack. This will be a very unique autocross with the camber of the track being used for the additional challenge that creates. The huge figure 8 oval will be used for the majority of the course. We are limiting registrations to 30 cars so there will be plenty of runs. Bring plenty of gas. In the afternoon there will be at least four high end instructor sessions where lines at Pacific Raceways and Portland International raceway will be discussed as well as some technical sessions where car alignment, tire pressures, and other car related things will be discussed. All included in the basic entry fee. See more information about this and register at www.audiclubnw.motorsportreg.com
For those who just want to partake in the afternoon technical sessions there is also an opportunity to just sign up for those. Audi Club North America membership is required for entry into these sessions and you must register on the www.audiclubnw.motorsportreg.com website. Members get into these talks for FREE.
Audi’s are not required for this or any portion of University of Quattro so feel free to invite friends and co-workers to this event. ACNA membership is not required for either the Drivers Education (exercises or autocross) or the full autocross.

Achtuning is proud sponsor of this year’s Audi Club Northwest Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School and Teen Clinic
Written by Todd on March 23, 2011 – 10:51 am -
Once again it is our privilege to sponsor the Audi Club Northwest’s annual Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School and Teen Clinic for 2011.
Audi Club Northwest and Achtuning are proud to present the Fifth Annual Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School and Teen Driver Clinic at Bremerton Motorsports Park, May 14-15.
Who was Matt Ammon? Matt Ammon bought his ’01 Nogaro Blue Audi S4 in May of 2001 and became very active in local chapters of Audi Club North America in Ohio, Illinois, Virginia and Missouri before coming to the Seattle area in the Summer of 2006. Tragically, he was taken from us in November 2006. In his all too short time with us Matt brought his enthusiasm, skill and knowledge and quickly became integrated with the local Audi community and Audi Club Northwest. When asked what modifications one should make to their car, Matt would be quick to answer, “The first mod should be driving school.”
Saturday’s Driver Education (“DE”) is not the DE we had when we first earned our drivers license. This is an advanced DE course that is encouraged for all drivers, teens, novices or intermediate drivers. It is an exciting opportunity to learn how you and your car work together in real life situations on the street and highway. DE students will participate in a number of exercises (slalom, emergency braking, collision avoidance, skid pad) on Saturday morning and run the DE Autocross in the afternoon.
What is an autocross? An autocross is where drivers navigate through a course by following a route of cones that make up turns, gates and slaloms. Autocross is an excellent way to practice the car control skills learned in the morning’s driving clinic exercises.
More experienced drivers can register for the All-day Autocross on Saturday, which is held on a second course layout. The All-day Autocross is for practiced drivers looking for lots of runs! For enthusiasts, this big autocross is a chance to sharpen your skills for the new season.
On Sunday, we have our All-day Lapping or high performance driving school. What is lapping? Using street rules, with strict passing rules enforced, instructed lapping on a road course puts multiple cars on the course for 20-30 minute sessions. This is not racing; there is no side-by-side braking or fender contact. This is another great way to learn and practice car control. People who have completed a DE course and are 18+ years old are invited to participate. Anyone who drives on the interstate should attend at least one lapping event to practice skills at highway speeds.
The Teen Driver Clinic is discounted to $25 for young drivers 16-19 years old. Register early as there are only 15 spots available! This clinic is designed for the beginning driver, teaching valuable skills such as emergency braking, collision avoidance and car control. A parent, guardian or authorized representative must accompany teens younger than 18 to the facility.
Parents of teen drivers are encouraged to attend the Teen Driver Clinic as a participant! Take the same clinic as your teen; make the day important for you too! Share stories at home! A special package price of just $79 ($25 teen +$54 parent) puts each of you in the same exercises and practice so you can share the experience together. You’ll be able to talk about driver skill using the same terms, and have fun together. Teen and parent must register individually using the selections available in the next screens. You can share one car for this event; each of you will have the same driving time.
Adult drivers 18+ may choose from the following event options:
Two-day price of $225 for Driver Education and Lapping Day.
Two-day price of $195 for the All-day Autocross and Lapping Day.
One-day price of $100 for Saturday-only Driver Education and DE Autocross.
One-day price of $75 for Saturday All-day Autocross.
One-day price of $145 for Sunday Lapping Day.
Registration pricing includes lunch for each day you participate. Guest lunches are available for $12.
Sunday Lapping attendees must be Audi Club North America/Audi Club Northwest members. You may purchase membership at time of registration (best method) or go to the Audi Club North America website to join.
Saturday-only participants are welcome to come back on Sunday to spectate and talk with the new enthusiasts you’ve met. It is okay to bring friends with you too. You may be able to arrange rides with designated instructors on Sunday to experience first hand what a lapping day is all about.

Only 9 spots left for Audi Club NW’s Geschwindigkeit 2010 track day at Pacific Raceways
Written by Todd on July 9, 2010 – 8:17 am -
We here at Achtuning are pleased to announce our support for the Audi Club Northwest for Geschwindigkeit 2010 at Pacific Raceways on Friday, July 16th!
Registration is now open and only 9 spots remain!
This is a new event for at Pacific Raceways. For those of you who haven’t been able to join the Audi Club Northwest for events at Portland International Raceway or Bremerton Motorsports Park, this is a great opportunity to experience an Audi Club event at a world class facility within a short drive from the Seattle area.
With nearly 5 decades of history and located only 34 miles from downtown Seattle, the Pacific Raceways Road Course is a world-class, SCCA and NASCAR certified, 10-turn (9 turns with a “kink” in the main straightaway), 2.25-mile course. The 170mph front straight is at an elevation of 150 feet above sea level. There is a total elevation change of 125 feet, of which 100 feet occurs in 1/2 mile, between turn 2 and turn 3B. Winding through natural wooded terrain, sweeping curves and hairpin turns make Pacific Raceways one of the most unique and challenging courses in the United States.
The one day price of $235 includes lunch and plenty of track time. We will be limiting this event to 60 participants, so we can provide as much track time as possible.
ACNA membership is required for this event. If you are not a club member yet, and you own an Audi, please contact the NW chapter registrar through the above registration link for new membership options. Anyone may join ACNA or renew an existing membership as part of your registration on the following event sign-up pages.
All attendees must be at least 18 years of age.
This event does NOT have a Driver’s Education exercises component. It is for drivers who have attended at least one ACNW high speed lapping event or equivalent from another club or driver’s school. Please indicate your driver skill level as part of the registration process online.
Instructors will be available for those who are not signed off to solo, or anyone wanting a coach. One of the objectives of this event is to practice and refine the experience you gained from attending previous track events with Audi Club Northwest or other car club events.
If you have questions, email the event master, Seth Varty though the registration link above.
Check back here soon for upcoming specials to help make sure you have the right performance products to help make the most of your day at Geschwindigkeit 2010!
We hope to see you out there!

“The first mod should be driving school” — Matt Ammon
Written by Dion on April 20, 2009 – 9:11 am -
Many of you may not know who Matt Ammon was and may have never met him. However, the words of advice he gave to new Audi owners ring especially true in the Northwest. It has been Audi Club Northwest’s credo since its inception more than 14 years ago. Members who have participated in ACNW events know the secret. Your enjoyment behind the wheel is directly affected by your skills to control the vehicle. The more comfortable and confident you are in your abilities to pilot your vehicle, the easier it is to avoid collisions and safely drive your car to its potential.
The Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School (MAMDS) is the perfect starting point for people who are hesitant to try performance driving as well as for those who have been to many schools and want to improve driving skills. Your instructor’s goals will be to improve your driving to allow you to negotiate around an autocross course and track and in the crazy world of commuter traffic or poorly lit back-roads. It is all connected. Matt understood these points, and the ACNW has practiced them.
Matt also strongly believed in the social aspects of club. Events such as MAMDS allow you to interchange with people that you would have never meet otherwise. These are people from all walks of life and ages. Sharing a common experience with people you meet at these events creates lasting bonds that, in the age of social networking, extend friendships well beyond the immediacy of a single event.
This is a full-fledged driving school with chalk talk sessions on Tuesday May 12th on Mercer Island and Friday May 15th at Hampton Inn & Suites in Bremerton from 7pm to 9pm each evening. The Driver’s Education (DE) on Saturday is encouraged for new car owners, novices and intermediate drivers as an exciting opportunity to learn how you and your car work together on the street and highway. Intermediate/Advanced drivers may also take DE as a refresher, or register for autocross-only on Saturday and/or lapping on Sunday.
Autocross will run all day Saturday for practiced drivers looking for lots of runs, and for those not participating in the morning exercises on Saturday. Everyone will convene for a large autocross in the afternoon. Lapping on Sunday will be a bit different for those who have attended MAMDS in the past. A contingent of instructors spent a day at Bremerton Motorsports Park devising new road course designs intended to challenge you while improving track safety. The event coordinators intend to run two different road courses on Sunday to give the previous participants a more interesting experience.
The Teen Clinic on Saturday is designed around the beginning driver (drivers 16-20 years old), teaching them valuable skills such as emergency braking, accident avoidance and car control. Register early as there are only 15 spots available! Teen drivers are encouraged to attend the Teen Clinic with a parent as a participant; take the same clinic together! There is a discounted price for each of you.
To learn more please visit the ACNW website at www.audiclubnw.org or contact Elaina Anderson at racegirl_914@yahoo.com or 253.740.4054. Registration is at www.audiclubnw.motorsportreg.com
We hope to see you and your friends at the Third Annual Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School May 16 & 17th!
