APR Releases ECU Upgrades for the Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen Automotive Group’s 2.0T found in the Golf R is the world’s premiere 4 cylinder turbocharged engine and APR has developed a line of premiere performance enhancements to compliment VAG’s achievement. APR’s expertly recalibrated engine management upgrades and professionally engineered OEM replacement performance engine components result in an even more enjoyable, powerful and efficient operation with no loss of life or use. APR’s complete line of performance enhancements have been developed for the 2.0T to provide increases of 83 FT-LBS of torque and 79 HP with an APR ECU and Hardware upgrades.
APR’s Software, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Teams have built upon years of experience and unmatched accomplishments with VAG’s standard 200HP 2.0T FSI engine to develop new breakthroughs in drivability and performance enhancement for the Golf R 2.0T which comes with 273HP. The APR Stage I ECU Upgrade is an ODB-II ECU upgrade that not only gives you higher peak numbers of 306 horsepower and 293 ft-lbs of torque, but also gains of up to 38 horsepower and 34lb-ft throughout the power band!
APR’s ECU Upgrade is the best power per dollar modification for the 2.0T and gives it just the extra edge these cars lack from the factory without pushing the limits. With factory like smoothness and drivability APR’s ECU Upgrade will fill the void in an otherwise excellent car.

APR pushes the 2.0 TSI motor to 500hp!!

Building upon over thirteen years experience turbocharging Audi/VW engines, including four with the 2.0 TSI, APR’s Engineers have once again taken the TSI to ground breaking levels of performance. APR is pleased to introduce the 2.0 TSI Stage III+ Turbocharger System producing 451 horsepower on standard 93 octane pump fuel and 501 horsepower on 100 octane race fuel! Thanks to APR’s advanced real time engine management calibration capabilities, the Stage III+ turbocharger spool is lightning fast with a nearly flat torque curve from 3500 RPM all the way to redline. In all driving conditions, Stage III+ has power instantly on tap to pull you back in your seat and put a huge grin on your face.
Power levels beyond that of the APR Stage III Turbocharger system were made possible with the addition of three main components:
- Garrett/Honeywell GT3071R Turbocharger capable of airflow levels approximately 25% higher than the Stage III GT2860RS unit.
- APR High Pressure Direct Injection Injectors approximately 30% larger than standard OEM TSI injectors.

APR Presents: 2011/2012 2.0 TSI ECU Upgrades
Written by Dion on October 18, 2011 – 4:28 pm -APR is pleased to announce 2011/2012 Model Year 2.0 TSI ECU Upgrades are now available for the Jetta, GLI, Passat, CC, Tiguan, Beetle and Eos! Delivering 254 HP and 303 TQ with an APR Stage I Upgrade and over 400 HP with an APR Stage III Turbocharger System, APR customers can experience the same power levels existing customers have enjoyed for years.
In late 2010, VW began delivering several 2011 Model Year vehicles with Bosch’s MED 17.5.2 ECU featuring a new Infineon Tri-Core 1767 processor. Launching a new processor type requires the expertise of APR’s Electrical Engineers to fully dissect, reverse engineer and gain a deep intimate knowledge of the new architecture before software development can begin.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen of America contacted APR to Engineer an all-new Stage IV Turbocharger System to showcase the awesome potential of the 2.0 TSI engine found in the new MK6 Jetta GLI. Upon delivery in May, APR found the Jetta was equipped with the new MED 17.5.2 ECU and required extensive development to meet Volkswagen’s expectations of an early delivery at Waterfest, 2011. With months of R&D previously dedicated to the new ECU, APR was able to write software for a 500 HP 2.0 TSI Stage 4 engine build, completing this seemingly impossible project before the GLI had even been released to the North American market.
APR’s Electrical Engineers were then tasked with creating tools necessary for any APR Dealer to flash the ECU in a convenient manor. APR has continued to reinvest in human capitol and as the Engineering department continues to grow, development of new ECU types should be available at a more rapid rate in the future.
APR’s forthcoming Universal Programming Device will allow APR Dealers to flash a multitude of ECU makes and models, in house, without sending customer ECU’s to APR’s HQ. APR anticipates dealer flashing by December 2011. While development of this tool continues, ECU’s will be sent directly to APR’s HQ for upgrading. Depending on ECU, please allow for a one to two business day turn around.

APR released their Supercharger Pulley Upgrade for the Audi (C6) A6 3.0T

APR is pleased to present the world’s first Supercharger Pulley and corresponding ECU Upgrade for the A6 3.0 TFSI. Without recalibrating the ECU found in Audi’s latest line of supercharged direct injected vehicles, pulley upgrades offer no advantage, as the supercharger will simply bypass boost pressure. With APR’s ability to expertly recalibrate the 3.0 TFSI Engine Control Unit, we are able to develop new hardware and calibrate the ECU to work properly as if intended by the factory.
Many enthusiasts coming from Audi’s history of turbocharged vehicles expected massive increases in torque, at lower RPMs, simply by adding an ECU Upgrade. Unlike turbochargers, roots style superchargers are positive displacement meaning they provide a fixed amount of air flow based on engine speed. On the 3.0TFSI Audi chose to use a bypass valve that bleeds off boost pressure when requested. Keeping the valve almost completely shut at lower RPMs allows them to make respectable torque and opening the valve at higher RPMs allows them to keep horsepower within their marketing goal. Consequently, the APR Stage I ECU upgrade provides a relatively low increase in torque but an exceptional increase in power. For those demanding more torque, the APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade is the answer. Spinning the supercharger faster increases air flow and effectively doubles the low-end gains of Stage I. The gain in torque is felt immediately, but the results are present from beginning to end adding up to 90ft-lbs and 113 horsepower at all four wheels!
APR has chosen not to cut any corners and as such each APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade Kit includes a new supercharger belt. Furthermore, all existing APR Stage I ECU Upgrade customers are entitled to a free APR Stage II+ ECU Upgrade required for proper functionality. Finally, every APR Pulley is E-Coated black for an OEM appearance.
Increased Supercharger Speed
The 3.0 TFSI uses an Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) Roots-type Supercharger unit, which features a four-lobe rotor design to safely run at high operating speeds. APR’s no stranger to the Eaton TVS1320 Supercharger Unit having spent several years developing a Stage III Supercharger System for the High Revving Audi RS4 and S5 4.2L FSI V8. Through the years, APR’s Engineering Teams placed even greater speed demands on the TVS1320 than offered to the public with a flawless track record.
A balance of power and reliability is always a concern when going beyond what Audi delivers from the factory and APR’s Engineering Teams use accelerated life testing both in house and through professional motorsport racing to ensure years of Performance Without Compromise.
Increased Boost Pressure
Unlike turbochargers, superchargers boost pressure is nearly fixed in relation to engine speed. The factory supercharger unit features an electronically controlled bypass valve which bleeds off boost pressure when mass airflow and load levels increase past the power requirements set from the factory. The APR ECU upgrade prevents boost from bleeding back into the intake system, resulting in higher boost levels. However, boost pressure is still limited by the size and the speed of the supercharger.
The APR Supercharger Pulley Upgrade increases the RPM of the supercharger resulting in an increase of boost pressure all the way to redline. This results in torque you can feel off idle all the way to redline.

Installation Kit
The factory pulley is pressed on to the supercharger’s input shaft. It’s not possible to remove the factory pulley without damage, or damaging the supercharger itself unless special care and attention is taken.
The APR Supercharger Pulley Installation Kit is designed to encapsulate the entire pulley and pull
evenly across its entire surface. The unit is compact enough to not require complete removal of the front end of your vehicle, reducing labor time. Furthermore a provision was made to incorporate a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar which allows the entire assembly to be easily counter-held and ultimately makes the process a one man job.A complete install manual covers the install process from start to finish, making installation easily completed at any APR dealer or in your own garage.
Software
APR Stage 2+ Software is REQUIRED to take advantage of this modification.
Pulley upgrades do not work on stock or stage 1 software.APR Stage 2+ Software Upgrade is included as a free upgrade for existing APR Stage 1 customers.
If you do not have APR Software already, you’ll need to purchase it when sending in your ECU for this upgrade. Also, if you currently have stock software, you’ll need to visit an APR dealer to have your ECU prepared.
